Greece Wedding |
| When
my parents decided to marry first they announced their wedding to parents.
My mother’s parents were very happy that their daughter gets marriage.
My grandparents from the mother’s side were democratic and always
trusted and supported my mother in everything. And they blessed them.
But as it usually happens father’s parents were against this wedding.
They wanted that their son marry some Greek woman with Greek roots. It
was very important for them. They wanted that the wife of their son was
like Tais – Athenian hetaera, devoted, smart and brave. But my
mother wasn’t a Greek, besides she was an American. And it was
the worst. So, they disapproved this marriage. My parents were on the
verge of a nervous breakdown. They just loved each other and wanted to
be together. And they didn’t expect such reaction. Even mother’s
parents came to Greece that to persuade them. But they stood their ground.
But than more father’s parents became against the wedding than
stronger became their feelings. They decided to marry in spite of everything.

Grandparents from the mother’s side did everything that they feel happy. It wasn’t a posh and great wedding. Everything was rather simple, just close friends and relatives. After wedding they lived in America with mother’s parents. But some how my Greek grandparents got to know about hidden wedding and were angry that their son disobeyed him. There wouldn’t be a happy end, if father’s grandfather, a very old and wise man, didn’t interfere in the situation. He said that it is not important she is Tais or not, the most important love. Somehow my father’s parents accepted my mother to the family, but with one condition, to make a traditional Greek wedding. It was a big event. There were a lot of guests. My mother had a very beautiful dress, which sewed my Greek grandmother. The second wedding was greater and happier than the first one. So, that was the beginning of a long history of our friendly family. |
