Athenian Hetaera

All our family is interested in books and our eleven years old son Cameron is not an exception. On his last birthday we presented him the best gift ever – a book that had been found online Overstock coupon codes. It was a historical encyclopedia about Ancient Greece. We decided to present such sort of book, because he likes history too. It is his favorite subject at school. So, he was delighted from our present. And all weekend he sat at home and read this book, instead of playing football with his friend in the yard. He was so absorbed in reading that I wanted to look through this book too. I thought it will take no more than fifty minutes, but I didn’t even mentioned how three hours flew by. It was so interesting and informative. There were many interesting facts and events, but the most I liked the article about Tais. It is a famous Greek woman who lived at the time of Alexander the Great.
Tais is one of the most well – known hetaera of her time, she was the top – class hetaera, the legendary antique beautiful woman. She knew much about painting, art and history, knew several languages. The Athenian hetaera has lived eventful life side by side with great people of her time, talking with them as equals. To be the hetaera is mean to be always the first. The hetaera should possess not only perfect beauty, but also she should be smart and hold a conversation. It wasn’t enough to study love and seducing art. She should succeed in several kinds of sport, and in one of them even to surpass men. The word "Hetaera" means a friend, a companion. And Tais Athenian was such a friend possessing all qualities above. She could swim perfectly, dance, was a good horse – woman and she could stick up for herself. She was well educated and she has been admitted to the secret female deities’ ceremonies.
In Greece the hetaeras were women of exceptional abilities, worthy friends of the greatest minds and art workers. Tais Athenian participated in Alexander the Great campaigns. The hetaeras of such top – class, who was Tais, could choose those men to whom they have feelings, and nobody, even the most notable and rich man, couldn't force her to spend time with him.
The life of Tais Athenian was surrounded with man's defence, and it was mysterious and magnificent.
